Original open edition linocut. Inspired by commonly found equatorial flora, this linocut reflects the botanical delights found amidst the hustle and bustle of daily Nairobi commuters. Rooted in red earth, golden haze, amongst the shadows of a palette of green flora, stands the iconic, silent yet mighty, Bird of Paradise plant. Catching glimpses of these striking, sculptural plants dotted along roadside verges during my city travels, I am gently reminded that within all that makes the world go round as passengers of place and daily life, there is strength, hope and beauty within the contrasts of Kenya.
Part of the Garden Plants of Kenya series - a body of work exploring equatorial and tropical urban flora in print form produced during my time in Kenya.
Linocut carefully hand carved on Japanese vinyl, handprinted on artist cartridge paper using high quality oil based inks.
